KT SAT announced on Dec.15 that it presented a plan to strengthen business competitiveness through the formation of LEO Alliance among overseas local operators for the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite business at the Euroconsult World Satellite Business Week (WSBW) 2021 event, where 95% of global satellite operators participate every year.

KT SAT President Song Kyung-min participated and showed his aspirations and focused his attention in the online panel discussion on the topic of “How will local satellite operators respond to the changed market environment?” at Euroconsult WSBW 2021 held in Paris on December 13th to discuss participation in the LEO satellite business. 

On this day, KT SAT president Song, as well as C-level figures from Hispasat CEO Miguel Angel Paduro in Spain, Turksat CEO Hasan Huseyin Ertok in Turkey, and Yahsat CTO Adnan Al Muhaili in the United Arab Emirates participated in the panel, and heated discussions were held.

“KT SAT plans to participate in not only HTS satellites but also low-orbit satellites in order to secure sufficient satellite capacity, which is a basic condition for competitiveness in the satellite business," said President Song. "However, considering the economic feasibility and rapid market entry, I would like to suggest that local businesses establish an alliance and jointly challenge the LEO satellite business.”

The reason is that relatively small local operators must provide multi-orbit satellite communications through a diverse portfolio of services, including low orbit, in order to compete with global operators such as SpaceX and Amazon.

In the low-orbit satellite business, fierce competition is expected as many satellite operators, including large global IT companies, have recently entered the business.

Low-orbit satellites are attracting attention as a next-generation mobile communication technology that can be used for 6G, etc.

Meanwhile, KT SAT also introduced a hybrid solution developed by KT Group with its own technology at the same place. Hybrid solution is a technology that realizes seamless communication by integrating multiple networks such as LEO, geostationary orbit, and 5G into one.
